We offer a wonderful, fun, engaging, and educational PUMPKIN PATCH FARM TOUR for school groups.

{UPDATE : We are now taking bookings for 2017 Pumpkin Patch school tours. Please contact us if you would like to book. Thank you.}

For two decades Shamrock Farm has been welcoming young school children to the farm during our October harvest season.  Since our farm grows 100% of all its pumpkins, it provides a wonderful setting for young children to experience a true working farm and to visit a real pumpkin field.

Tours last one hour and are always led by Farmer Shannon, the owner, to ensure nothing is overlooked. This tour is a hands-on educational field trip, providing a unique experience for each grade level. It is best suited to children from preschool to grade 7. School tours run from October 1st to 31st.

Upon arrival,  Farmer Shannon will greet the classes at the school tour welcome area and safety on the farm will be discussed. Students are then led into the pumpkin barn. The pumpkin barn is where students will learn all about the life cycle of pumpkins. The tour centers on the pumpkins and will help children understand pollination, soil conditions, seed varieties, seed saving, crop rotation, planting, and harvesting. Farmer Shannon also introduces the students to dozens of varieties of pumpkins, and the students find out that not all pumpkins are orange and round.

We then take a walk out to the pumpkin patch, where each student will harvest their own pumpkin right off the vine to take home. After harvest, and ample time exploring in the pumpkin patch, students return to their chaperones who will help label each pumpkin with the child’s name.

After pumpkins are chosen, we meet and greet the friendly farm critters that call Shamrock Farm home. Visiting our resident farm animals is always a highlight for the children. Students are encouraged to interact with all our farm animals. Each child is given a cup of special feed to feed to our friendly chickens and goats, and we collect fresh eggs from the hen house. Students are invited to play and explore in a natural play area on the farm.

At the end of the visit, each child will receive extra time to view the animated displays in the pumpkin barn.

We are always happy to adapt the tour to meet specific curriculum and educational needs. We can tailor any program to your goals for your students or group, and make sure you have a fantastic time meeting those goals as well!

Please call (250) 339-1671 for more information or to reserve your desired date and time. We promise to create a farm experience that your group will remember for many years to come.

“I have been taking my kindergarten and grade one students on the pumpkin tour at Shamrock farm for many years. Each visit, my students are delighted by the haunted barn, the variety of farm animals, and the chance to chose their own pumpkin from the fields. Shannon is friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable and informative. My students always leave having learned something new about pumpkins. I look forward to visiting again next year.”

“I have planned trips to Shamrock Farm’s Pumpkin Patch over the years with my elementary classes. Everything is always ready for us upon our arrival and students are captivated until the moment we head back to school. Shannon and her family have put a lot of thought and effort into planning the learning experience for visitors to Shamrock Farm.

It is the relaxed, educational and responsive atmosphere that engages students for the entire visit and allows students to have the real experience of a farm. Thank you, Shannon, for opening your farm to the many children who now get to appreciate what is involved in the planting and harvesting of a crop, the role of bumble bees, and the good care of goats and chickens on a farm.

The memorable part of the trip for me as a teacher is to see the class build a sense of community and shared experience early in the school year that lasts well into the year.”
